You should be able to easily cast 60-70 ft with good technique which will put you in range of most saltwater species. To get there you will need to first learn proper technique to cast a heavier rod and then add in a haul (at least a single haul) to get your casts out there. An hour or so of casting instruction ...Sep 18, 2018. #3. I just picked up a 'glass rod I intend to use in the salt: A Fenwick Feralite FF85 (8.5' 7-8-9wt). Compared to the other Fenwick Feralites I use (FF75 and FF806), there is no doubt in my mind it's up to the task. Its action and ability to throw tight loops into the wind are similar to what you'd expect from graphite rods.FL. Sep 19, 2021. #4. Welcome to the forum tiggbigms252 - Not sure what your budget may be, but for a glass creek rod I'd recommend the Epic 370 or 476. I fish the Epic 476 and love it. On small streams, you seldom cast more than 35', usually 15'-25', and at that distance Epic FastGlass2 rods really shine. They offer a rod building kit that's a ...

Traveling can be a stressful experience, but with the right airline, it doesn’t have to be. American Airlines offers nonstop flights to hundreds of destinations around the world, m...As for line, I’m a fan of the WF (weight forward) Lines, floating for a 2w. With so many lines on the market, they can really vary in price. With the design and typical use of a short 2w like the Little River, I wouldn’t suggest a ton of backing since this isn’t really a distance rod, but more of a finesse.Location. RI. Jan 22, 2022. #2. This rapid recovery creates such great natural line speed that it can cast line like a more fast action rod, but with a more medium/fast flex profile that offers a …

Also, I ended up at Michaels last week on my way to Joannes and found 2mm foam for 99 cents for a 12x18 sheet. 6mm suitable for streamer box liners for $1.50. The thick stuff wasn't a huge sheet though. Just enough or one x-large fly box.

On the one hand, the Payload was introduced after the Bass II was discontinued and both were designed for throwing big flies with compact head/overweighted lines. But there's a 10" difference in length for most models (most Payloads are 8'9", but the 10 and 11 wts are longer), so that suggests a completely different rod.

On my 4th or 5th cast, I got a strike and it was fish on. An 8" Rainbow, which for this stream is a near-trophy (the typical fish there is 5-6" and more likely to be smaller than larger). So a great way to break in the new rod! I am so impressed with the rod. Just exceptional for the small, tight waters I fish so often. It roll casts …Mar 18, 2023 · Fishing the Kenai penninsula is the least desirable way to fish Alaska, IMO, but likely the best place to go with nonfishing people. Everywhere else in Alaska will not have much, if any, tourist type stuff to do. Drive inland, the roads aren't secrets because there are only a couple of them. Nov 24, 2011 · Re: A Thread for the Dry Fly Purest; Hi Ard, You've pretty much summed up dry fly fishing for me. Yvonne and I would rather catch bluegills on drys, than dredge a nymph for deep trout. Blue-Winged Olives are a particular favorite, and we can usually get something to rise to a small BWO of the temperature is above 50 degrees. Dec 20, 2021 · 1,544. Location. Boston, Mass. Mar 8, 2023. #16. I have no idea if they're any good, never heard of them until now, but I have enough of a problem with tangling weighted nymph rigs that I am curious. They are $25 for a pack of 10, not $25 each. That's not much more than the price of flies, so maybe they're worth a try. The 7'6" - 8' 6" +/- class of 3wt (and 4wt rods too) of current production rods are, fortunately for us, some of the nicest rods that have ever been produced. I fished, arguably, two of Winston's finest models, an 8' 3wt and 8' 4wt IM6's for more years than I can count. These rods were, and are, wonderful, specialized, fishing tools. The UK Fly Fishing Forum. Salmon Fishing Forum. Sea Trout Forum. Thomas Turner. Menu Log in Register Home. Forums. Now, not much of an issue if one remains conscious and can deploy the PFD to the intended vest position but, if there is a loss of consciousness, the PFD may not work as intended. I was wondering about this, because it seems like a liability if I'm flying down a big freestone.

Dec 25, 2018. #6. The 907-4 Radian is quite a soft rod and in my opinion, not a great streamer rod if full sink lines and larger flies are going to be used. It simply has too weak of a tip to be a great streamer stick in my opinion. I would personally choose a 7wt Meridian or an 8wt Radian if it was me.Introducing the New Cheeky PreLoad 2.0 Fly Reels, the perfect ready-rigged solution. In fact, you might check to see if you can get a 2wt B3X on sale that in my opinion, approximates the flex and action of the Sage 389. I have 2 B3X’s and really like them. My 2 cents. Best, SR. A weighted nymph box, an unweighted nymph box (both of these are just one-sided), a dry fly box (two-sided), a tiny junk fly box (one-sided), and a box for larger random flies I almost never use. The random box I made 25 years ago from a Nintendo cartridge container and foam, back when l lived in Oregon where steelhead were around. One was a 16' which would handle a 3 hp outboard on an adaptor that clamped onto the gunwhales, the other was the 12' Gruman aluminum alloy and touted as the lightest canoe ever made. As much as I love fly fishing, it remains a close second to upland bird hunting with my dogs of which I have been blessed with several very good dogs. I've used a 6 wt a lot for bass, and have even tossed some very large flies, that would have been easier to cast with an 8 wt. The main difference is distance. The only thing that begins to screw up longer casts with big streamers are ones that cause a lot of wind resistance.
