Contagion in networks

In financial networks links stand for loan agreements between financial institutions which are represented by the nodes of the network. There are two types of contagion that have been studied on networks formed by financial links. The first type ….

Abstract Many behavioral phenomena have been found to spread interpersonally through social networks, in a manner similar to infectious diseases. An important difference between social contagion and traditional infectious diseases, however, is that behavioral phenomena can be acquired by non-social mechanisms as well as through social transmission. The network is particularly vulnerable to contagion when the originating node is large, highly leveraged, and, crucially, has a relatively high proportion of its obligations held by other financial institutions as opposed to the nonfinancial sector, what we will call high financial connectivity.

Downloadable (with restrictions)! By considering overlapping portfolios among financial institutions, we construct a financial contagion model for inter-bank networks with two channels of contagion: counter-party risk and common asset holdings risk. Based on the model, we verify the contribution of overlapping portfolios to systemic risk contagion and further analyse how …In our model, we consider the coevolution of two spreading processes on a weighted multiplex network (see Fig. 2).The first is the process of social contagion spreading, S h IR, which is a SIR ...Downloadable! This paper develops an analytical model of contagion in financial networks with arbitrary structure. We explore how the probability and potential impact of contagion is influenced by aggregate and idiosyncratic shocks, changes in network structure, and asset market liquidity. Our findings suggest that financial systems exhibit a …Here, we propose an alternative method for detecting emotional contagion in massive social networks that is based on instrumental variables regression, a technique pioneered in economics [23]. In an experiment we would directly control each user's emotional expression to see what impact it has on their friends' emotional expression.

At that time, an individual’s sentiment contagion system will deviate from the balanced condition under the combined action, and the individuals in the system will go to extremes. 3. Numerical simulation in complex networks. In this section, by simulation we discuss some characteristics of our novel model. When it comes to television providers, Dish Network is one of the more popular options. With a wide variety of packages and prices, it can be difficult to decide which one is best for you.We develop a theoretical framework for the study of epidemiclike social contagion in large scale social systems. We consider the most general setting in which different communication platforms or categories form multiplex networks. Specifically, we propose a contact-based information spreading model, and show that the critical point of …As discussed in Section 2, contagion occurs through social interactions, and thus the process of contagion would use a social network as a substrate. In parallel, there could be an exploration process with reinforcement—akin to those introduced in Section 3—that takes place over a different network of relations/similarities between items.

Oct 9, 2013 · Section 3.1 illustrates how the resilience measure allows us to quantify and predict the outcome of contagion on one sample network generated from a random network model that mimics the properties of a real interbank exposure network analyzed in Cont et al. . We observe that networks with the same average connectivity may amplify initial shocks ... In NetworkRiskMeasures: Risk Measures for (Financial) Networks. Description Usage Arguments Value References Examples. View source: R/contagion.R. Description. Given a matrix of exposures, a vector of buffers and weights (optional) the functions simulates contagion for all the shock vectors provided.Jan 1, 2015 · Thus, with bankruptcy costs, the probability of contagion is at least ( 1 - ( 57 / 150)) q = 0.62 q, which is now greater than the probability of direct defaults through independent shocks. A similar comparison holds with truncated exponentially distributed shocks. This example illustrates how bankruptcy costs increase the probability of contagion. ….

Among the many factors contributing to the financial crisis the increasing of 2007-2009, interconnectedness of the global financial …

This study examines the interface of three elements during co-contagion diffusion: the synergy between contagions, the dormancy rate of each individual contagion, and the multiplex network topology. Dormancy is defined as a weaker form of “immunity,” where dormant nodes no longer actively participate in diffusion, but are still susceptible to …Jan 28, 2016 · Explosive Contagion in Networks | Scientific Reports. The spread of social phenomena such as behaviors, ideas or products is an ubiquitous but remarkably complex phenomenon. A successful avenue...

art hub for kids animals Complex networks represent the natural backbone to study epidemic processes in populations of interacting individuals. Such a modeling framework, however, is naturally limited to pairwise interactions, making it less suitable to properly describe social contagion, where individuals acquire new norms or ideas after simultaneous exposure … team building power pointwhat is communication in electrical engineering 5. Conclusion. The application of complex network theory can open up new perspectives for studying the structure and stability of the banking system. In this paper, we analyze the systemic risk of the Chinese banking system since the global financial crisis of 2008 by applying a contagion model to the network. big 12 media day schedule This paper develops an analytical model of contagion in financial networks with arbitrary structure. Here, we elaborate a novel method for measuring the contagion of emotional expression.
